Ugh. So I finally got around to hooking up my scanner because the idea for a cute holiday image struck me and I just HAD to start working on it so I could have it up for Christmas.

I went merrily along my scanning way, scanning the sketch and three pieces of scrapbook paper for the cause. When trying to scan the fourth piece of paper I need, my HP ScanJet utility just stopped working, saying it couldn't access the scanner. This has happened to me before, and a hard reset usually does the trick. I turn off my computer (during which I get a DDE server error window), let it sit for a few, and turn it back on. Bring up PSP7, initialize the TWAIN thingamadoojy, and it just sits there then says that there's an error initializing it. Try another restart after checking some of my connections/settings. Get another DDE server error window.

Bring the comp back up, look up WTF a DDE server error is. In trying to figure this out, I use the event viewer tool and see that the Windows Image Accquisition thingy failed to initialize (it hung on startup, the error says). But when I go to start it manually, it says the process is already running.

So I'm downloading the HP driver diagnostic thingy to see if the driver I got was out of date (even though I downloaded it from HP) since that's what google tells me I should do. But this makes me angry. >.<

ETA: The only things I've installed recently have been an updated version of Trillian and the supposedly updated version of the HP drivers.

ETA2: Followed all the steps on the HP website and it are fixed for now.  Triumph!
