"DIMMED LIGHT"
By Doppelganger
His feet were cold as he dragged them across the floor, making his way from the kitchen to his bedroom. He stood by the foot of the bed. It was dark but the dimmed orange light over the bed helped him see the figure comfortably tucked in under his duvet. His head was slightly tilted to the side, hazel eyes focused on his bed. Broken thoughts played in his head-
Here-
Now-
Again...
And as if to stop himself from calling the person’s name out loud, he rolled his lips inside his mouth. His brain commanded him to verify the thoughts but that heavy, uncomfortable feeling that settled in the pit of his stomach demanded otherwise.
He didn’t like the feeling one bit. It was the same feeling he had 10 years ago-- scared…
Confused but never having the same feeling of wanting something so bad that it literally hurts…
After all these years… He began to think.
Then a realization hit him; five years ago, during the time of his life when saying goodbye was inevitable he thought that the feeling will subside. He moved on. He carried on but never once forget…
And now he had that same confusing and painful sensation again...
“Brian?” A head peeked out under the duvet.
“It’s still night, Sunshine,” he whispered as he crawled back to bed. The figure immediately took him within tinier but strong, hard limbs;
Arms around his neck, a thigh over his waist.
“Then what are you doing up?” The voice was muffled against his cheek.
“Can’t sleep,” he replied, his lips brushed the side of a face and then that familiarity-- knowing in the dark there was a full grin directed to him.
“Hmmmm...” A soft moan, “That’s right. I forgot... You’re used to sleeping by yourself...” The voice was more distinct as the lips that spoke the teasing words now moved by his mouth.
His reply remained trapped within his throat; that uncomfortable feeling crept from the pit of his stomach to his chest-- tightening, tightening--
Tightening his chest until he finally released a sigh. In the dark his eyes closed. He was not one who easily shared what he felt or one to admit that he had any feeling to share at that... But all those times that he was alone, he wished for the unsettling sensation to visit him once again. Crazy as it might sound, everything was so dull without it.
Without him.
He knew that he’d never feel as alive as he felt at this very moment...
His eyes adjusted in the dark with the help of the dimmed light. He now stared at a pair of blue eyes...
Justin...
His hand ran through the blond’s hair...
Now that Justin returned, it was as if it was beginning all over again. The sensation, the fear, the pain.
The joy...
He didn’t know how to handle it... Especially the part where he was happy...
But he didn’t care to figure it out...
He shrugged, the dark helped conceal his denial, “I don’t mind you around... Whenever you’re up from New York,” he pressed his lips together.
“Aaah,” the blond nodded, fingers played with his dark hair, “That’s good to know. I sorta love staying here...” And he kissed his lips.
A smile appeared on the side of his mouth, behind their kisses but not lost in them... The sole light flickered but remained lit...
