Rest assured, the ship's energy and resources are finate and so recklessly "testing" the weapons on a target like Kaen could be a potential stress on the systems.

I'm just enjoying the view.

Precisely. Your concern is refreshing though-- you must be new to the City?

Yes, you would be correct. In fact, I arrived yesterday.

I'm Hal Lidner. It's a pleasure to meet you.

Likewise Miss Lidner. I'm Garma Zabi, the Eternal's newly appointed captain and oppo--

--Well.. being new I don't suppose you've been caught up to speed about the City's politics yet? Would you care for a briefing?

I mean this as a compliment-- you have an air of strict protocol about you.

A briefing would be very useful, thank you Mister Zabi.

Ah, you flatter me. Though you are quite perceptive. :)

I lurked around your journals Not at all, I was just hazarding a guess from your vocabulary.

As for a briefing..

In short, this City is an alternate plane of existence in which normal laws of physics and reason do not adhere. It's become the crossroads of not only several worlds and planets, but different timelines as well. For instance you may one day meet your own child or your deceased grandfather in the City. Yes, the Dead and Living are coexisting here.

I would be of the first group.

Many of the inhabitants here have resigned themselves to making the most of this City's existence and only worry about exiting to a limited extent. The rest, especially a good number active with these journals, are working hard to leave the city. And again, I would be of the former group.

Have you heard the ticking, Miss Lidner?

I see.

Thank you for your input, though I do have previous experience with both of the situations you have outlined for me.

Yes, I have. I have been told that it goes away when one is in the company of others, and I have experienced that firsthand.

Oh? You have? Well the best to learn is through empirical means afterall. Most don't believe the situation until they are also confronted with such.. "impossisbilities"

Aside from the muting, have you heard about it's relation to "the Countdown"?

Yes, I have.

That the "clock" in the city is counting down to the "End of All Worlds"? Yes, I heard that as well. I spent a fair majority of the time since my arrival here checking the journals of other city residents.
