The Roller Derby

May 16, 2010 00:44

Went to the roller derby for the first time tonight.

I haven't been this hungover in a long time, and that complicated my patience for the 4 hours of ladies on skates who bump shoulders. The first 2 hours was a bit slow, and I felt like I was watching Nascar, but without the cars, and much hotter women.

However, the last 2 hours was a lot more interesting, and the second visiting team were definitely more competitive than the first. They won too, but it was a close one, and that made the event more exciting.

Still, being so hungover killed most of my enthusiasm towards the sporting event as a whole, but it's sort of like playing golf vs. watching golf: playing is better than watching, and that's generally how I felt about it.

I've actually chatted with a good handful of the skaters at the Shanty, and have been asked to try out. Not only have I not skated in probably a decade or more, but if I was bumped by someone my gut reaction would be to punch them, not bump back.

The ultimate highlight of the night: The local team member with the name "Thunder Muffin."
