im thankful everyone is ok
last night im playing with hayden and nola and their new toys. then i get a call from my friend dawn at work. she said she has bad news. so im thinking shes not coming to work or something. no. my best friend gail (that got fired from work right before thanksgiving) her house caught on fire and they are now homeless. everyone got out ok, except one cat who they lost to the fire. about midnight christmas eve/day the electric went out. they said the breaker box was making some funky buzzing nosies. gail didnt feel comfortable enough to sleep, and finally fell asleep at 4:30am. at 4:40am she was woken to dana and todd screaming "FIRE!" i guess it happened in the attic due to faulty wireing. they already had a hard time because their heat didn't work. so they were using space heaters, which are dangerous enough. it started in the attic on dana and todds side of the house. they lost everything they had. gail's stuff is salvageable because it was on the other side of the house. they had 5 dogs and 7 cats between the three of them (dana and todd are married and gail is dana's mom). gail had 2 dogs and 3 or 4 cats. dana had 3 dogs and 3 or 4 cats. right before gail got fired one of her cats died...so they may have been down to 6 cats. they also had 2 birds and a tranchula.
the red cross put them up in a motel for 3 days. and they might be able to get them an extra 3 days due to the holidays. they also gave dana and todd a walmart gift card due to they lost everything they had. red cross is also going to pay their first months rent and if the landlord of the place they will be moving to wont budge on the deposite....they might be able to get into a program to pay that. so dawn and myself went through the paper calling about houses in columbus that are ready now and aren't too expensive on rent and that allows dogs. 99% of the ones i called were not in. i did find 2 (not good neighborhoods tho) that are under 500 and one allows pets for sure. both are ready to be moved into now. so tomorrow at work dawn and myself needs to send out an email asking for people to help out on money, food, etc. they have to find a place to live like yesterday and get money to get a moving truck, clothes, bedding, covers, food, etc.
its bad enough losing your job right before thanksgiving. already having no heat or phone. your mother lives in cleveland with diabetis. only 1 income now instead of 2. then to become homeless on christmas day?!?!?! im speechless. i went and bought her a 250 min phone card from kroger so she can call about housing and call her mom to make sure she is doing ok. everyone who prays, please keep them in your prayers. they sure do need it. and wish me luck on getting her as much help as i can.
