About a year ago, I found out Kitty had hyperthyroidism. I though that was the end of the world. Until I learned more about the disease and how simple it is to stabilise witih medication in geriatric cats.
In May, Kitty had elevated liver enzymes, stopped eating and drinking, stopped having regular excretory functions, and got so thin you could feel all of her ribs individually and see each vertebra. She didn't weigh as much as a Chihuahua. Near the end of June, though, she was all of a sudden okay. All her bloodwork was normal. She gained weight, was eating and drinking, acted much happier, and started pooping again.
I took her to the vet on Friday for her yearly shots and a re-check on all her bloodwork.
She has kidney disease.
This is her death sentence. There's no repairation of the kidneys once damaged. Not like the liver.
She's early on in the disease, but things can progress rapidly and without warning to renal failure and death.
I've been a non-functional puddle of tears since I found this out on Friday.
