It has been about three weeks since I moved to Berkeley. My room is cozy and there are plenty of great places to eat, although I have to really explore my surroundings. I am still working at the shoe store for rent money; taking BART for about two and a half hours each time I go to work. It has been ok so far, I get lots of reading done on the train. The people I live with are great - a French, banjo playing engineering student; a football player/grad student; a friend for the past couple of years; and a philosphical alcoholic-.
I am trying to find work in my area, hopefully education related, but really I think anything that pays within reason would be fine. Worst comes to worst, I could try and substitute teach in Oakland. So far my finances have been pretty shotty, but at least my accounting of it all has gone well, so adjustments should be pretty easy.
I started running again after taking about six weeks off due to stress fracture. I feel as though I have lost quite a bit of both speed AND stamina. This means that I will actually have to get real hits in softball from now on, no more swing bunts. The running out here has been pretty good, I just need to find some fun trails to hit up.
I went roller skating for a friend's birthday this past Saturday. I learned two things- 1) I have horrid balance and should not skate in any shape or form. 2) Bruises actually feel kind of good. I have bruised by most of my left proximal tibia, left butt cheek, and left third metacarpal. Kind of hurts when I try and sprint, but at least I can still function.
