Just the claps

Last week we went to see Star Trek again because it's finally cheap on half-price Tuesdays. That was viewing number five for me. In a way I feel like I should see it at least once more in theaters so I'll officially have seen it more times than I saw Phantom Menace in theaters (5.5 times; the half-viewing involved a boring drive-in movie with TPM showing on the next screen over.)

Oddly, this is not actually a post about my extreme devotion to New Trek (well, it's only tangentially about that.) The real point is this: before we went to the movie, we were wandering around downtown and I decided I wanted to check if Dimple Records had any used copies of the Trek movies I don't own. Short answer: no. BUT, when I wandered over to the CDs, I found out that Metric has a new album out, and I picked it up and bought it right there, like it was friggin' 1990 or something. (I've actually been buying all my recent music on real, physical CDs instead of through iTunes, in part because it makes me expend more effort and really consider how much I want to spend money on a given item, and in part because I'm just feeling cantankerous about digital music, I guess.) (JoCo excepted, natch.)

I'm pleased to report that the new album, Fantasies, is excellent. I spent all day listening to it on a pretty much constant loop while making blueberry pancakes and chasing kittens off tables and trying to teach myself to vid.

These are my two favorite tracks so far:
Metric - Gimme Sympathy
Metric - Help, I'm Alive
(let me know if the links and/or media don't work)

I'm also fond of this song - Metric - Twilight Galaxy - but can't quite get over how much the intro reminds me of The Cheat is Not Dead. Unintentional hilarity ahoy!

strong bad, music, trek
