Agh. Trying to be sympathetic and listen to ex-roommate griping about marriage and unemployment, but my sympathy gland is on the fritz. So, instead of thinking about that, I'm going to think about television. Ah, television.
Good week for the TV so far.
Watched Everwood on Monday, after having missed the last, uh, 4 episodes. Apparently everyone's broken up & gotten cancer & lost their jobs in the meantime. Wacky. At least Bright is still as wonderful as ever.
Yesterday, of course, was
House. Wow. That was a barn-burner for sure. I don't know why I chose that particular term to describe it, but it was the first thing to pop into my brain, and now I'm stuck with it. Maybe it's the farmer connection, who knows. Point is: I would like to have a romantic, candle-lit dinner with David Shore's brain, then I would like to take a stroll with it down a country lane, and then I would like to take it home and make sweet, sweet love to it. Er... metaphorically.
To sum up: I liked the episode a lot. Such a cool way to break out of the usual formula. I totally watched it twice last night (when it aired & then later on tape with the roomie), and I'm still having trouble getting past the general coolness to remember specific things I liked. Carmen Electra got a laugh, especially with the "take off your pants" jokes. Chase and Foreman searching for snakes & wrasslin' with dogs was quite entertaining. House's narrative control was a thing of beauty. "Time is not a fixed construct." Mmm, meta. "Not her real name!" Hee! Oh, and the little proto-ducklings coming to get him in his office after 6 minutes. So very cute.
Oh, and Stacy. Stacy! Well-written and well acted. There's been all this build-up for the 'House's ex omg' plot, and it really could have fallen apart in the execution, but it didn't. And that's good. And way more than I expect from anything on Fox these days. So, yeah. All in all, good stuff.
As for tonight...
Oh, Lost. I'm so glad Gwen sent me all those tapes last fall and got me hooked on this show. I know I made some embarassing wibbly noises during certain scenes, and while I'd like to pretend I only made those noises because I was alone in the room, that's a big ol' lie.
So, Sawyer and Jack saying goodbye and being all manly and emotional? Wibble (with a side of rrowr, because, y'know, shirtlessness). Walt leaving Vincent with Shannon? Wibble. Jin and Sun finally talking? Big ol' wibble. Also, happy sigh. I love those crazy kids. I especially liked how she was still a bit off with Michael, with the handshake/hug awkwardness. She loves her husband, but she still trusted Michael with her secret first. Mmm, divided loyalties.
The little vignette-y flashbacks were a cool touch and, sort of like House, a bit of a twist on the usual formula. I'm gonna need a second viewing before I have any actual thinkiness about the monster and the raft and Rousseau. I must say, though: the Black Rock! So not at all what I was expecting! Well played, Abrams... well played.
