namely, by watching 12 straight hours of firefly. woo!
the theory here is firefly a.j.i. (as joss intended), so we've done serenity and the train job so far. we're currently on a half hour lunch break, for the hungover and starving among us. pretty good turn out, actually. there were maybe 6 to 8 people here when jess and i showed up (about 10 minutes into serenity), and about 25 people by the end of train job. i believe much credit is due to our brilliant flyer-posting skills. the lines on the posters (jayne's definition of the chain of command and "sir, i think you have a problem with your brain being missing") both got big laughs. it does my heart good to see people appreciating the brilliance of joss and all his creations.
i'm guarding the room/contents of the room while jess and katie obtain foodness. i could be doing something useful, like, oh, homework, but of course i didn't bring the magazines i'm supposed to critique. i did, however, bring my notebook of randomness for to make notations about scenes for the vids i have going in my head. mostly i've been jotting down possibilities for my wash vid (to coldplay's "high speed") and my simon vid (garbage, "shut your mouth"). please note, neither of these vids will ever actually be finished, as i have no skill with vidding, nor can i ever seem to get into the prolonged fits of vidding that are apparently necessary to finish one. but i nevertheless continue to come up with cracked out vid ideas, and i figured i should pretend to use this day of sittting around watching firefly for something vaguely fannishly productive. and i know i'm really stretching the definition of productive there, but such is life.
things i'm noticing as i watch: foreshadowing everywhere. this show had a plan. little bits of information dropped here and there, building up to later storylines. kaylee nagging mal about the compression coil, jayne continually trying out the rest of the crew with the idea that they should ransom river to the feds, and, of course, all the little bits of info about river and the academy. gah! i want this show to still be on!
i must admit, the firefly marathon was the impetus for making this random little portland trip right now. there are other advantages to this timing as well - reedies aren't back in school yet, so for once i'm not hanging around distracting katie as she studies for huge, future-hanging-in-the-balance type tests, plus jess has time off work, so there are people around to hang out with. i've even been doing my reading for shakespeare, in between rounds of snowboarding & trips to the pub. twelfth night is proving easier than as you like it, possibly because i saw a production over the summer, so i've got a stage-picture in my mind.
and now food is here, so i will eat. and stop monopolizing katie's laptop. and start nattering about nudity. woo!
