gwen apparently saw a different version of the movie than i did. interesting.
yeah... so, we waited in line for 5 hours. there was much card playing, as is traditional for geekful line-waiting. i also tried to reinvigorate the lost tradition of The Book(tm). got a few wacky quotes out of people, so we'll call it a success.
"but you never saw an orange monkey!"
"the hangman doesn't lie!"
as for the film itself... i know i loved it, i know i haven't cried over a movie like that (or at all, really) in a long time, but i can't entirely say why. i'm possibly going to see it again over the weekend. maybe i'll have more coherent thoughts after that.
general impressions: loved the singing. loved pippin. loved frodo & sam and their tragic love. everything was pretty and painful and wonderful. some people i spoke to were unhappy about things that were left out, and pam in particular is of the opinion that the ending dragged on too long, but i don't care.
got three hours of sleep, opened at the bookstore at 8 am, and i didn't even take a nap. i'm expecting to collapse at any moment. still: utterly, utterly worth it.
there are singing canadians on south park. oh, and it's scott! he's a dick!
"to get to ottawa you just have to follow the road."
"which road?"
"this is canada; we only have one road."
pam seems to think i'll be willing to scratch her back after she made fun of me for crying over the little hobbitses last night, the heartless bitch. sad thing is, i probably will scratch her back. i'm such a sucker.
