relief

I have employment.
Assistant to the Vice Prez of the University of Phoenix satellite campus of Savannah. It sounds more important than it is, unfortunately.
I'll basically be making Powerpoints, Excells, and editing his crap. And probably making his coffee.

But I am happy and optimistic, because it is a job that pays money, unlike my online book editing gig that I am getting increasingly lazy with, most days just not even bothering to read this poor guys manuscript. The writing's not excruciatingly bad, but it's funny how easy it is to pick on a unedited writer's style within minutes, and then guess all the mistakes they will make as you read.
But maybe I'm being one of those snotting editor types. (Which is also funny, because I'm not actually a read editor. I'm "employed" as an editor by a shady online business called "American Publisher," which apparently has never even sold a book. Or so I read on the intra-web)...
Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath.

But things are becoming increasingly good here. I long for Maine autumns, which I will not get, but it will be nice to swim in September and October. It's all about the trade off.

I bought a bunch of Dorothy Allison books recently, due to my re-read/rediscovery of the amazingness of Bastard Out Of Carolina. I also bought a Bukowski poetry book, in part from remembering an old friend's love for his work, but also because someone I met down here said something about his greatness, and it recalled in me the fact that this old friend was a big fan too. When I hear praises from two respectable word-lovers, I have to indulge. So his book is on the way. Yay for me and buying books that I get to keep, rather than borrowing ratty, pee-smelly ones I get from the ghetto library.

Another good note: thanks to the job, I get to spend money on "work clothes," money that is not my own (Of course... when has it been in recent memory). Jon is amazingly generous, and I am forever grateful and loving.
