Europe Trip Journals Day 20: Pompeii

Day 20, July 7 [9:30 pm]

Headed out really early for an extra-long travel day, and our last day with our bus and driver, Sevario. Definitely bittersweet. Left around 6:30 and arrived in Pompeii, our only stop of the day, around 10? We went through anyone and a half guided tour of the Pompeii ruins. It was definitely different from what I expected, but also very cool. It is really still a huge city. The stuff they've uncovered is amazing. You could easily get lost in the ruins, as it looks just like a modern city like Venice, but without the water, and with broken buildings. A lot of the art inside the houses, some statues, and famous mosaics survived and it was really cool look at them in person, knowing they existed about 2000 years ago. Also, they were hella slutty. They had a red light district with brothels that had mosaic signs with numbers on them indicating the sex act you wanted that night (e.g. 1. Dog style picture, 2. Missionary picture, 3. Oral, etc.). We also saw a couple of the people in glass cases, really creepy. Much freakier than the mummies in the British museum. After our scorching Pompeii tour, we hung out for a bit over an hour, eating and shopping (finally found my Italian peace flag!!), and left around 1:30 for Bari, the port where we have just departed from Greece. We'll be on the boat till tomorrow afternoon, and then it's another few hours driving to Greece. We stop in a smaller town first, and then go to Athens the next day I think.
