Day 5, June 22 [8:00 pm]
Woke up at 5:30 am in order to leave London on a bus at 6:15. We spent about two hours driving to the port of Dover, getting to see the beautiful cliffs of Dover, and the castle of Dover on he'd rive. Tie English countryside was beautiful, and a nice change from the city. At the port we waited a while and finally boarded the cruise ship. I initially wanted to spend the hour and a half cruise on the top deck sightseeing and pounding, but they had it quartered off, so Ayer wandering the small part of the middle deck outside, I sat down to finally begin reading a book I got for Christmas that I've been waiting to read. I spent the rest of the cruise reading and becoming engrossed in my book 45 minutes or so), and in turn, when we arrived at the port of Calais, France, I planned to read more on the second leg of the bus ride to Paris. By the time we reached Calais it was about one, and we initially hoped to reach Paris by 4. However, traffic was bad, we made a few stops, and lagged a bit, getting us to our Paris hotel at 6:30 (15 minutes before we were supposed to leave for our dinner). It was supposed to be a nice, fancy-dress dinner that we would have had a few hours to prep for, but we were so rushed everyone just the on whatever and we Dan down the road to the restaurant. However, looking back at the drive, I enjoyed it a lot because I was able too read 200 pages in my book, and I got to see the gorgeous villages and countryside in Calais. There were windmills, picturesque little towns centered by churches, and lush fields.
Dinner! The restaurant was amazing, definitely topping the Londond pub, and the food was to die for! Quiche and salad starter, pot roast and mashed potatoes main, and a real FRENCH crème brûlée for desert! I finally get to say I had a crème brûlée in France.
After dinner we took the bus to the seine river for a tour boat ride around the Paris Island. O the way we got to see a ton of the major sites, helping us decide what we want to explore in the coming two days. Seeing everything, so gorgeous, brought this trip to life. I finally feel like I'm in another country, away from home, seeing something amazing and unforgettable. The cruise itself was interesting for the first half hour, and the second half hour started to get a bit boring, but the final half hour got everyone energized again because we got to the Eiffel tower, so close you couldn't get the whole thing in a photo. You could see every detail in the meal work, the frame, and really take in its magnificence. Everyone really came to life seeing it so close, and as the night drew on, and it got darker, after 10:00 by this point, the tower lit up, and we were all in awe. It was an amazing end to the night, and we all can't wait to climb to the top and touch it, and really see it up close Friday night as our final destination in France.
