27 hours and counting

So I set out from my house at 4:00 in the morning on Monday the 2nd. It is now 6:30 on Tuesday the 3rd in China and I've been traveling for nearly 30 hours. Honestly though, it feels like it's been even longer. What's worse, I will get home at around midnight tonight and then I have work at 8:00 tomorrow. A week and a half at home was really quite short.

The trip was good though. I got to see two of my best friends from when I was a kid, another great from high school, and the cutest baby girl in the world. As is typical with me though, I didn't take any pictures and forgot to get the ones my dad took from him. Big fail.

It is kind of crazy though, how much easier it is to be in the States. Having grown up there, everything is simple and easy. I don't have to be constantly on point, ready to speak in Chinese, which is still hard for me sometimes. I can drive anywhere without worrying too much about directions. Parking is a breeze with those huge spaces, and the stores are SO BIG. And I couldn't get over how many people were polite and did small things like smiling at me. I've been back in China for just a few hours and am already finding myself irritated at all of the rude people around me.

On the plane I watched two movies (one excellent: Win Win; one horrible: Red Riding Hood), five episodes of The Big Bang Theory, and the newest episode of Sherlock. I really loved "A Scandal in Belgravia". I had just read the short story so it was fresh in my mind, but like usual, Moffatt and Gatiss made it special and all their own. Then I slept a lot. But I'm still so tired. I'm mostly typing this so I don't fall asleep and miss my flight.

My feelings exactly Stitch.

What else? Oh! I'm planning a trip to Australia for later this month. I have the stupidest work schedule right now. I missed a day of work today because I couldn't book an earlier flight. I have work until the 13th, a mere eight business days, and then I get another three weeks off. It's kind of ridiculous. I know for a fact that I, and everyone else in the office really, will be completely useless in that week and a half. One of my coworkers is actually taking advantage of the short time and is not coming back until after the three week holiday.

In any case, I'm booking a flight (hopefully straight to) Sydney. Then I'm going to use a Backtracker rail pass (about $220 for two weeks, result!) to go all over New South Wales. I'm really looking forward to it, even though I have to do it on my own. I'm sure though, like my other solo travel experiences, I will meet likeminded and fun people all the way.

Right, well, I think my plane's about to board, so I'll leave my little wifi hub and go sit at the gate, blast some music, and strive to keep my eyes open.

Ciao!
