Guess what I wear as a hat... a lentil

TGIF! On Fridays we get to leave work an hour and a half early, which means I'm trying to finish stuff before I leave. Nothing ruins a weekend like having to work on stuff due on Monday.

Therefore! I present the first edition of Video Roundup Friday! Most of these are from the Awl/Hairpin/Sidesplitter

First is from Craig Ferguson re: the Charlie Sheen thing.

He's absolutely right. The way the world is gawking at Sheen as he goes into meltdown is quite disturbing, but really, nothing new. That being said, I couldn't help but laugh at this...

This short film of Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is so precious and quietly funny.

I wish I had this girl's stage presence. Next time I sing, I'll be following her performance technique.

Last but not least, here's a video from National Geographic that presents the most "typical" human being on Earth.

Yeah, I see that guy on average 30 times a day here. Here's an interactive website for Natgeo's population project, it's pretty nifty: clicky.

Sorry for the video overload folks, we'll be back to our usual (eclectic) programming tomorrow.

Day 10 - Songs you listen to when you are Happy, Sad, Bored, Hyped, Mad.

Eh, this question doesn't really apply to me. Emotions don't really come into what I want to listen to, it's more what I'm in the mood for. But whatevs.

Happy: I'll listen to anything when I'm happy, but especially Margot and the Nuclear So & So's, Regina Spektor, the Decemberists, the Hush Sound, mostly indie-ish things. Speaking of the Decemberists, I just read a fascinating article about them. While I had noticed that many of their songs detail gruesome deaths and horrible things that happen to women, I'd never thought too deeply about it. It bears thinking about, and it may alter future listenings to the band's music.

Sad: Soft, slow movie scores like Angelo Badalamenti's score for A Very Long Engagement or Martin Phipps' score for North & South. Sometimes listening to certain tracks of Murray Gold's from Doctor Who makes my heart ache, especially "Doomsday" and "This is Gallifrey, Our Home." The music itself is evocative and stirring, but it's remembering the scenes from the movies or shows that makes me a bit soppy.

Bored: Musicals and Disney songs. They bring me back to my childhood. Also, I know most of the words to my fave musicals by heart so they're easy to sing along to.

Hyped: Songs from Glee, Top 40 stuff, recently Ellie Goulding and Mumford & Sons.

Mad: I don't get mad too often. I actually can't think of how to answer this question. I usually try to distract myself with a TV show or a book. Oh! Happy techno-y stuff like Owl City would probably snap me out of my funk.

music makes me happy, 30 days of me meme, youtube
