Two nights ago I had one of the best concert experiences of my life. Here's how.
Step 1: I buy a ticket to see Rufus Wainwright at the Tabernacle a month early, hoping to find someone in the interim to go with me. Within a week of the concert I can't't find anyone.
Step 2: My friend Michelle randomly decides she can come. We buy her a ticket the day before. I drive for 2 hours to UGA so I can pick her up (and play a few hours of Kingdom Hearts II). We drag along one of her friends, hoping to get a ticket at the box office.
Step 3: We arrive at the Tabernacle an hour early and find very reasonably priced parking not far away.
Step 4: While waiting in line at will call a girl offers me 2 free tickets, courtesy of 99X. A brief moment passes where I regret already paying for Michelle's ticket. I give the extra ticket to some lady.
Step 5: Inside, I allow myself to buy a cute Rufus tote bag b/c of the amazing free ticket incident.
Step 6: Randomly, I meet up with old friends I haven't seen since middle school, we watch the concert together and catch up.
Step 7: I discover a new favorite band, A Fine Frenzy. Their opening blows me away.
Step 8: My feet hurt and it's already 10:20 but I am pumped for Rufus. He does not disappoint, playing some of my favorite songs. And wearing lederhosen.
Step 9: For the encore, Rufus comes out in a dressing robe and plays Hallelujah, then puts on earrings, lipstick, and high heels, and goes on to sing "Get Happy" in drag. I become even more smitten.
Step 10: We leave the concert hall at the ripe time of 12:15. I realize I have left my license at home and force Phillip to drive, allowing me to relax in the passenger seat.
A very satisfactory night indeed.
