Looks like I just officially applied for my position at Imperial. Which is to say this shit just got real and I now have a little over two months to plan everything. The plan thus far is:
Fly out of Melbourne on the 9th of August and spend a week settling in to London. I have some friends who will be over there traveling and I will undoubtably hang out with them a little. I am definitely looking at staying in the College Halls because my supervisors won't spring the cash for much more than that.
Start at Imperial on the 15th and spend six...seven weeks utterly working my ass off. Like. Utterly. I need to impress these people and probably need to get some good data as well.
Finish at Imperial on the 30th of September.
This is where it gets decidedly fuzzy in the planning department. There's a conference in Berlin on the 19th of October that I'm planning to be at but other than that there not much set in stone. So that's two and a half weeks to swan around Europe...basically. I've done Europe before but not since i was 18...19, something like that. And not completely alone. So, anyone got any smart ideas? Any recommendations? Money won't be a huge issue, I don't think but I'd like to not spend all my savings since the PhD has a few more years.
In other news...I have done admin for two days straight. Admin and a frustrating poster. Visual presentation is so not my thing. I have tried two nights in a row to write something very nicely situated in my head and have failed due to family on the first night and a migraine on the second. Who does that.
No one else seems to be in my office today...though I've probably spoken too soon. Maybe I could settle for some writing now. Or I could stare at maps of Europe. Or I could do science...
Internet is fucked at home. We were over our limit because the youngest sister used about 98% in two days to download every tv show known to man before she left for the US. Bitch. I'm gonna get screamed at tonight.
