November 17, 1873

The most wondrous thing happened today! My dear friend Vincent, whom I have written about, has returned! For eight long years have I yearned for this day! Quickly I closed my services for the day and invited him into our home.

I must say how time has changed him. He is most definitely not a human being. His eyes have started to become inverse; the retina has changed to an odd grey, and his pupil has become eerily white. I'm afraid it has affected his vision, for he is wearing glasses now. His skin has gone from a Caucasian tone to pink, and he has grown yet larger, towering over me. I couldn't say for sure, but it appeared his canines have become longer and more menacing, and possibly he has sharpened his other teeth as well. I asked him about this, but he wouldn't tell me. I fear that he is trying to protect me from something horrible he's done.

I showed him to my new son, Vincent. The two seem to get along perfectly, although he, the larger Vincent, was very nervous and fearful of harming him. Still, I urged him on. I know Vincent is a gentle man, and has always been kind to Cathleen and I. We offered him the option of living with us once again, but he turned it down, saying he would rather not bother us. I insisted that he think it over and contact us if he ever does take us on that offer. Hopefully he will say yes and I will have the joy of sharing the house with him once more.

I doubt he knows it, but I'm beginning to feel time catch up with me, and have written out my will. My savings (not even Cathleen knows about them) will be split between Cathleen and him. It's a large sum that should support them for many years to come, I will proudly say.

Someone is knocking at my door at this hour of the night? My heart leaps for joy, I feel it is Vincent coming to accept our offer. I will continue writing after I hear the news.
