Sad news: it's been confirmed that Jonathan Hickman's awesome run on Fantastic Four and FF will end in October with Fantastic Four #611 and FF #23. No news yet on who might be taking over; I just hope it's not somebody who's going to immediately overturn all the great stuff that he's done with Doom ( Read more... )

It can't be the last of Doom, we haven't had "Here, I can build" yet!

Yeah, I'm wondering if that's going to be coming in FF #16 next month, since that's supposed to be a sort of wrap-up epilogue issue. I expected it to happen in FF #15, but I guess they want to let the illusion that he's 'dead' linger on for a little while first. (As if any of us actually believe it.)

I have loved this run so much that I also hope someone good will follow it up and keep up with the kids, and the growing-up job he's done for Johnny as well.

I'm definitely worried about Johnny reverting to an immature kid like he has so many times before. I love the slightly darker more determined side that Hickman's given him since he came back, and I hope the rest of the run manages to establish that firmly enough that whoever comes next sticks with it. I'd actually quite like to see Johnny leading the F4 for a while; it would be an interesting new role for him, and I could see Reed maybe stepping back from the leadership role and focusing more on the Future Foundation after everything he's done lately has gone so wrong.

I really hope the FF spinoff can still survive after Hickman leaves. I love the extra focus he's given to the kids, and especially the relationship between 'Uncle Doom' and Valeria. It would be a real shame for them and the rest of the extended cast to disappear back into the background if it goes down to a single F4 book again.

I've got no clue who they might choose to put on the book next, though, so I guess we're just going to have to wait and see. At least we know Hickman's going to have the chance to bring his run to a proper finish instead of leaving in the middle of a story.

We also have solicits for a Wakanda two-parter, so maybe there's going to be some Doomwar-fallout there? IDK, I never quite got the whole "I MUST DESTROY YOU ESPECIALLY!" plotline, or Doom being randomly racist towards the Black Panther.

As cute as dancing and watching TV Johnny was over in ASM, still too much reversion to banter. But that's Slott (although I would pay a lot for another run of him on She-Hulk. A lot).

It's particularly ridiculous because there used to be this whole thing where Doom, Namor and T'challa had a good working relationship as fellow monarchs, and T'challa even called Doom one time for a scientific consult when he was on the Avengers. But a lot of Hudlin's Black Panther run seemed to involve him casually shoving characters into whatever roles he wanted regardless of their previous characterisation. :/ I hate it when people use the fact that a character is a villain as an excuse to just give him whatever bad traits they feel like.

Yeah, I saw those scans, and while I can just about roll with the idea that Johnny would be particularly immature around Spidey, it does make me nervous that we're going to get a lot of writers just picking up "Johnny's back" and not even paying attention to his characterisation in the F4 titles.

Slott's She-Hulk was awesome, though. I still don't know why they ever got rid of the setup of her working at the law firm with Mallory Book and Awesome Andy. That was gold.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we're going to get the Doom plotline resolution in this coming week's FF, which looks fantastic. "Is it itchy?" already made me laugh hard.

I hope so. One of the posters at CBR spotted that Steve Epting is credited as a penciller on that issue as well as Nick Dragotta, so there might well be a backup story revisiting what happened to Doom.

And yeah, that preview looks fantastic. I love that Valeria seems to have inherited a little bit of her Uncle Doom's ego there. Not so happy that she didn't get to be the one to save the day...

Dragotta's work on her face, last issue, when she was so sure that Daddy made the wrong decision about the council (but he didn't) was really great. I love the contrast between Val and Franklin (how often does the girl get to be the more intellectual and the boy the more creative/intuitive?), and the particular kinds of mistakes they both make. (And how Future!Franklin is Future!Val's favorite hero.)

I'm just going to leave my jaw dropped here on the floor and hope you enjoy the issue. :D

Hee, I just read the spoilers over at CBR and it sounds awesome. I won't be able to get my issue till tomorrow, unfortunately, but I will certainly make a rambly review post about it when I do.

It is multiple levels of awesome in all parts, and I hope that whoever takes over this title, eventually, gets all of his notes. :D
