GAH, I've been so lazy about posting.
Life's pretty average: the kid and I had a good Easter with my parents, I continue to enjoy the hell out of my new iPod, money's still tight but it's there, etc etc.
But that's not what this entry is about. This entry is about DOCTOR WHO.
That was...that was satisfying. It was entertaining and fluffy, and entertaining fluff is exactly what I needed after the last of Tennant's specials.
Things I Loved:
-ELEVEN. I was (with the rest of fandom) a bit WTF when the casting was announced, but Matt Smith had me convinced from the moment that grappling hook came flying out of the TARDIS doors. This man is the Doctor.
Still reserving final judgement until after I see scenes involving manpain.
- Amy. She made FANART of her raggedy Doctor. Also: cricket bat, running in short skirts, and biting her psychiatrists. Lastly, Karen Gillan is smoking hot. Like, right up there with Freema Agyeman hot.
"Of course not. Look at you. Box falls out of sky, man falls out of box, man eats fish custard, and you're just sitting there."
- All the Doctor/TARDIS bits. Yes, I winced when Ten blew up the interior (she's a living thing, man, grow a pair and regenerate already) but Eleven's love has made up for it. "You sexy thing!" "Thanks, dear!" SO PERFECT.
-The writing. Yeah, the aliens weren't all that inspired, but the hilarious throwaway dialogue was a thing of beauty. "I'm the Doctor, I'm worse than everybody's aunt!...and that is not how I'm introducing myself."
- New TARDIS interior is still growing on me, but the promotional stills show stairs and corridors off to different parts. Maybe we'll see more than just the console room this season? Also, swimming pool in the library, hee.
-Obligatory love: One more McGann shot in the pantheon of Doctors. SUCK IT, HATERS.
Things I Didn't Love So Much:
- New theme tune. I liked the strings-and-brass of S1-3. *pout*
- Alien threat. One big "meh". Not as bad as the Absorbaloff by any means, but not really memorable either.
- Some of the plot bits were a bit muddled. Just who, precisely, were the old lady and Jeff of the Porny Laptop?
- Food-spitting scene in wee!Amy's kitchen. Funny, yes. A bit tedious after 3-4 iterations, also yes.
Things I Am Ashamed Of:
...I hate Doctor/ Companion ships. I do. I like my ships with happy endings, and Doctor/Companion never ends well. So why does my brain keep insisting that Eleven and Amy should totally be Intergalactic Nookie Buddies? At least it's just Intergalactic Nookie Buddies, and not Intergalactic Twoo Wuv. Still, I feel unclean.
It doesn't help that Amy has the whole "dead parent(s), crap job, Average Joe boyfriend" situation that is rather similar to Rose, and if we get a retread of the Magical Alien Boyfriend scenario, I will fly to Wales and kick Moff in the shin.
BUT HE WAS TEMPTING HER WITH AN APPLE AND SHE WAS CHECKING OUT HIS UNDRESSING, THERE'S NOT MUCH SUB IN THAT TEXT ANYMORE.
Aargh, I give up. Fic recs? :D
