Language Hurdles

I've come to the conclusion that language learning is a very difficult thing. I set out to learn Italian with the preconception that it would be 'easy' 'no problem', I mean, after all I have my own personal interpreter (what more could a girl ask for?), but actually it's bloody hard and now I'm beginning to conclude that upon arrival in Italy I'm goin to be one of them dumb foreigners who point and speak in random words (when they know what they are!).

One things for sure; the Italian language contains far too many verbs. Take, for example the verb 'to like' - 'piacere', which has a 6 person context (I, you (informal), he/she, we, you, they) and comes in 3 different tenses (past, present and future), thats 18 different forms, of one singular verb!?

Then (yup, it doesn't stop there, that would be far too simple), take that 'piacere' is an irregular verb, only one of the 3 groups of verb, the others being regular, which has 3 different forms of it's own (those ending in 'ire' 'are' and 'ere') and verbs with 'special' patterns!? Now can you understand my plight when I say that learning Italian is not proving the easiest of tasks and that climbing the huge hurdle in my way could take a while, with a few precarious ledges and gripping on tight with both hands moments along the climb!?

ok, enough of the rant, ciao for now!
