It's nice out! This great.
Sunday I saw Red Heroine with the sweetie, after we reprised the Greek festival with museofgoodcheer. She doesn't love her LJ anymore it seems, but I keep the candle lit for it. These guys put it on:
http://www.devilmusic.org/ It's a silent movie made in Shanghai in 1929. They play music during it. They are taking it on the road, so if you live near civilization you should have an opportunity to see it, and I highly recommend it. All it's missing is a training montage (which I admit was unfortunate).
I've been watching a lot of youtube videos of LPs spinning. It's a lovely mix of tech levels. Kind of odd, but it really is the best way to get to listen to these old guys, especially if you want some otherwise forgotten songs. Like with Prince Buster - lots of people put out compilations of his stuff on cd's, but it's always like the same 20 songs. Home boy was much more prolific.
Had a satisfying meeting with the advisor. Turns out, I was not forgetting I was supposed to know from basic field theory - it was actually a real sticky point. Plus, we spent the first half hour making a calc 2 mistake, so it's encouraging when I am not the only one this happens to. Silly calculus. Maybe quantum gravity won't require calc. Maybe calc's day is done. Maybe it'll be all about hand gestures and pictures. That'd be great. We'll see.
Labs are going well. I've been trying to do my best to convince them not to write dull pieces of dribble. Spice it up a little. We'll see how they do. And I did have one person curious about what space and time were, so I got to talk about that. That's fantastically rewarding. Maybe someone will be curious at today's, we'll see! I'm off to give it a go.
