Misery loves...

Yes it's a rant as in I can't be bothered this year. I mean why should I send out Christmas cards to people who can't even speak to me or acknowledge me throughout the rest of the year? I'm talking of people who I know personally. People I worked with for a couple of years. People who we supported each other through the hard times of trading. ( Read more... )

I hate when I sit with people and they'll chat like I'm not there. The last time I met with my old work colleagues they just chatted most of the time about one of the lady's daughter's wedding, which I never went to and occasionally involved me in conversation and that was basically to ask how I was upto (if I was working yet) and to sort of tell me that I wasn't trying. It makes me feel worse when people act as if I am putting depression upon myself and are trying to suggest it's all me and that I need to pull myself together.

I sometimes feel like doing that and going as I say "all bah humbug" and not bothering with the cards and anything. However there are certain people that I need to send cards out to such as friends. My best friend is a technophobe, so it's worthless sending her an ecard because she doesn't have a computer and wouldn't have a clue how to get the card either.

I don't like all the commercialism of Christmas and that everyone just goes crazy as if the shops will be closed for a whole month or more. It's rediculous as to why people have to get in mass debts buying because they think they have to buy the kids and kids in the family the most sort after and expensive items. Due to being on a tight budget my family will get practical things they can use or something cheep they are likely to enjoy. My nephew will probably get something book related i.e. educational or and story. I could probably wrap up a kitchen roll holder and he'd be happy with that.

I'm always conscious of leaving people out of conversations; I've actually developed a few techniques to get people 'roped in', because I know it's not as easy for some to just join in.

Kids just like having something to unwrap, I gave up spending money on little ones years ago!

I do presents for my Mum,Dad, brothers (2), my best friend and other two best friends and their son, and that's it- no one else gets anything. I don't expect anything from anyone except Mum (it makes her feel good, so I let her get one for me!) but seriously- most years she asks me what do I want and I say 'pay the gas bill' -I guess that means I'm a grown up now!! God help me.

Today I was in a shop which is selling liquidation stock off and got my nephew some clothes cheep. They're not a cheep offbeat brand either. They're also bigger sizes than he is, so he will grow into them.

When I worked in the nursery a few years back there were times I would sit in the staff room with quite a few others at lunchtime and soemtimes they'd all either sit there and hardly say anything to anyone or they'd sit there talking as if I was invisable.
