no car, no computer make homer something something

So, here are my current grievances. Last Tuesday, Ben was rear-ended while driving the Saturn. This is the same car I have been driving since I was 16 and it is the same car that has been in over 5 accidents. This is the 3rd rear-ending it's had. He was sitting at a red light when the lady behind him decided she needed to go now. You'd think that would maybe just scratch the bumper, but no. There's a crack down the middle of the bumper, the trunk's bent and won't close, one of the tail-lights is about to fall off.
The Saturn is probably only worth about 3-4k, but we know it's history, all the internal stuff has been replaced in the last few years and we just changed the title on it and registered. I will be ever so pissed if they try to total it. To make matters worse, the lady who hit us hasn't contacted the insurance company yet, so they can't fix it until she does. It's been over a week for Ben without a car.

If that's not enough, on Friday Ben tells me my computer won't boot up. I figure it's the power supply, so does the tech when I bring it in. Easy enough. The place I bought it from does a lifetime service warranty so all we have to pay for is the new power supply. But alas, my life is never that easy. Turns out the motherboard is bad too and the computer is trashed. They can either try to rebuild everything or they can trade it in towards a new computer for $100. Rebuilding it would be about $600 with no warranty or guarantees or anything.
Or I can get a new system for $1100, with the two year parts and labor and lifetime service. But that does not include a monitor or a video card. We've been price shopping with dell and we found a system with better stuff for about the same price. But I like being able to just drive down the street and dump it off when something's broken. And I don't know how I feel about Windows Vista.
And right now we are using my parent's old compy, which is probably from 1999 or so and it doesn't like my modem for some reason, so basically I'm paying $50 a month for Internet I can't use.
Ben was planning on buying a new computer for video editing, maybe a laptop, but that was going to be in addition to mine. Argh!
Why can't things go right!?
