...last night. with respect to eating, we usually take either one of two options: take away or veggie stodge. take away is always the most tempting because there are so many fantastic options in town, most of which we are on friendly terms with the owners and workers: millenium sweet house (ace homemade curry), king baba (the more traditional curry house choice), tuscanos (pizza - two for one special!) or another of leamington's fair establishments. i can't help thinking that this option contributes to the fact that i never have money at the end of a grant period, and may cause me to die at an earlier age than is ideal or expected.
the latter option is veggie stodge - which consists of a lot of food cooked cheaply from scratch. my previous experience cooking for loads of people in bands and meant that i'm pretty good at this, and this year it's been much easier to improvise recipes, and know what ingredients, herbs and spices are needed at any particular time. probably unlike most student houses (especially those that contain boys as lazy as us) we have a massive spice rack which seems to have accumulated all sorts of stuff over the year, from parsley to mustard powder to cumin seeds. considering that i've decided to take this option as much as possible for the forseeable future, we made some sort of spicy tomato pasta last night, with the following recipe:
1 x red onion (organic, of course)
1 x clove of garlic
4 x birds eye chillis
1 x sweet red pepper, chopped
3 x giant mushrooms
1 x can of chopped tomatoes
and served with pasta. i fried the onion, garlic and chillis, then when they looked quite done, added some oregano and cayenne and stirred them all together. then added the mushrooms and the peppers and let them cook for a bit. added the tomatoes, let them cook for a bit. then added salt, pepper, tomato purre and some more oregano. and then add it to pasta (i always like cooking the pasta and then adding it to the wok/saucepan in which you've cooked the sauce, rather than the other way around).
it was good. really good. unfortunately when i bought the ingredients in tesco yesterday, someone appears to have stolen my bank card. i paid for the stuff, then checked two minutes later and didn't have my card. retracted my steps quite meticulously, asked at tescos (who said they'd phone me if they found it - no word) and there was no sign of it! i cancelled it, so am cardless this week. will have to go and get some cash from the bank - which i plan to do right now! toodlepip!
