Recs of various sorts plus cookies

Currently deep into the 'is this working, I can't tell' phase of yuletide writing. I always do manage to make something work but that phase always hits like clockwork.

I keep forgetting to mention these here but while I don't listen to many podcasts anymore I always make sure to find time for Bunny Trails (a weekly look into English idioms and turns of phrases, delightful with 2 American hosts, one woman and one guy), Lexitecture (an every two weeks dive into the etymological origin of two English words, really interesting, the two hosts are Ryan, a Canadian, and Amy, a Scot) and The Weirdest Thing I Learned This Week (where several Popular Science editors talking about 'the fun and interesting odd facts they came across while researching that week', usually all female hosts). I find all three interesting and great to listen to while doing mundane chores. All are probably available where ever you might look for podcasts. I also support the first two on patreon.

Have two weeks of
recthething recs. First a whole bunch of
trickortreatex art recs (lots of fandoms):
Discworld - Confused math Vimes Summary: Both the paparazzi who shot the pic and the entire editorial staff of the Ankh-Morpork Times felt that this was somehow momentous, but if pressed (pun intended), they couldn't really tell why. (wonderful take on the meme)
Little Red Riding Hood (Fairy Tale) - Lost in Thought Summary: Red seems kind of absent, maybe even bored of a regular uneventful life. It just kind of happened and didn't dare to change it. Little does she know her life is about to turn upside down... (really interesting three color composition and style)
Moby Dick - Breathtaking sight Summary: It was a dark, cold stormy night with no moon in the sky. The fishing boats drifted away further and further from the main vessel and soon we found ourselves trying to hold on tho the boats, the big white Whale whe were trying to kill long forgotten in our fear. We held and we held for what seemed 2 long and agonising hours until we finally let go and fell to the depths of the ocean... (wonderfully atmospheric)
Untitled Goose Game - Trick or trick Summary: The goose learnt about trick or treating and has made a short to do list for this Halloween (adorable comic)
Word of Honor - Warm senescence Summary: I wouldn't want to be the horse that has to carry him out of the restaurant, probably in a hurry, after he's done eating... (hilarious and adorable)

MDZS/Untamed:
- Free Tanghulu Summary: Xue Yang being Xue Yang (and being rather perfectly IC and unrepentant about it)
- Midnight treat - Summary: Little Apple eating its favourite treat surrounded by the brave and curious Cloud Recesses rabbits. (adorable art)
- Sunlight [art] - Summary: Nie Huaisang may not like sword fighting, but he does have another weapon at his disposal. (Battle fan art!)

Original Work:
- Mr Tibbles' Offense Summary: Fulfilling your crack prompt: Cats playing chess (Chess + cats, what could go wrong? - spoiler- everything)
- whiskers at the worktable Summary: A cat consults her tomes after gathering ingredients for a spell. (cats doing spells! So cute)
- Why Should Humans Have All the Fun? Summary: The first character tag tells the story, folks. (The tag is "Three Snakes In A Creepy Clown Costume Inexplicably Passing As A Human Trick-or-Treater" and it's just perfect!)
- Neat familiar Summary: A technomancer and her roomba familiar, it is what it is (really interesting with lovely details)
- Butterfleye [art] Summary: A butterfly with an unusual markings to avoid predation. (wonderfully creepy)
- Cat Adventures Summary: a cat gains magic (4 gorgeous and detailed feline adventures)
- Monsters, but also vegetables Summary: Monsters! But also, vegetables!(3 adorably whimsical vegetable monsters)
- Passing through Summary: As the veil thins, a mysterious and uncanny spirit wanders about on soft little kitty cat paws. (utterly amazing ghostly cat)
and then some tumblr art recs (MCU, NIF, MDZS/Untamed, TLTR) from last week:
MCU - The Order of The Avengers (Medieval / Heroic Fantasy AU) part 1 and part 2. (really love how some of the characters are depicted)
MCU - Peggy Carter (CA:TFA era and absolutely amazing)
MCU - bucky barns & winter soldier (another oldie but goodie)
NIF - Fei Liu (so lifelike and well done)
MDZS/Untamed - Wei Wuxian (simplistic but beautifully evocative)
Lost Tomb Reboot - Princess Mute (incredibly minor character for a tiny fandom but so adorable here I had to rec this)
I made my grandmother's mandelbrot today but I was out of walnuts so substituted chocolate chips. I rarely make cookies these days because they're so much more effort than bar-type desserts but madelbrot is nice because you bake it as loaves, slice and then put on the trays and bake again as cookies so it's not an hour long - shape cookies, bake, take off tray, shape new, bake etc over and over. The steps:

loaves after first bake

slice on the diagonal so they're longer
