recs, shawl and more

Two weeks of recthething recs first off- MDZS/Untamed fic, Guardian fic, tumblr art for both of those and also for Peggy Carter, Douluo Continent, Word of Honor and Godzilla vs Kong (which is just ridiculously cute, I know nothing about the actual movie):

Untamed/MDZS fic:
All In The Family by NevillesGran (10k)
Summary: Five times organized crime came to Baoshan Sanren's doorstep (and one time it didn't), and one time she went to theirs. (Really fascinatingly woven, and sometimes quite fun, modern mob AU story from an outsider's (Baoshan Sanren's) POV)

Softly Falling Snow by vailkagami (4k)
Summary: Wei Wuxian returns to the Cloud Recesses after months of wandering the land to find Lan Zhan in pain, and decides to do something about it. (so tender and sweet)

Guardian fic:
Come as you aren't by frith_in_thorns (5k)
Summary: It was a very polite kidnapping. (Shen Wei is grabbed because someone thinks he's from Dixing and ZYL has to rescue him without them figuring out they were right. Loved it.)

when the light goes out by janonny (53k)
Summary: Shen Wei stumbles across a lantern in the library that is always lit, sitting wholly out of place next to a window that allows in neverending Dixing light. (far future set canon compliant fic that I just could not stop reading)

Assorted Tumblr art:
Inspired by that adorable scene in the Untamed where A-Yuan cheers Wei Wuxian up by pretending to become birds. (slightly abstract but absolutely gorgeous)
Philantropist Wen (Word of Honor) art (chillingly done)
Peggy Carter (MCU) art (wow, just wow)
Kong and his friend Godzilla observe a corgi (ridiculously adorable Godzilla vs Kong fanart)
Shen Wei and Zhao Yulan (Guardian) Art (absolutely gorgeous)
Wen Ning (Untamed/MDZS) Birthday Sketch (the most adorable of adorable WN drawings)
Tang San (Douluo Continent) art (I love how this is reminiscent of an old scroll style of painting)

I finished (aka ran out of yarn) my WoH shawl. For all that I don't need another shawl and was just using random stash yarn it's actually a pretty good size. It's more maroon than the purple in the picture but it's so wonderfully soft. I haven't blocked it yet, I probably should but ugh, blocking.

Which means I need a new project. *sigh*

Overall I still mostly like Word of Honor, but with reservations and I'm finding the release schedule adds to my meh-ness about it. If not for some friends' hype about it I'd probably have wandered away from it by now.

I've been doing Spanish on Duolingo for a year and a half now (and not gotten terribly far even though I studied it in school for years) since in general I'm just dreadful at second languages (bad hearing plus learning disabilities) but I also recently started its Chinese and Yiddish courses. I am... laughably bad at both. But my goal is not to really acquire fluency in either but (for Chinese) start to be able to pick up some of the words in the Cdramas I've been watching and (for Yiddish) to, idk, have some tie to my grandparents and greatgrandparents (who all spoke Yiddish fluently/exclusively) Despite some exposure to it as a kid, probably since it was used in that 'speak it so we can talk without the children being able to understand' kind of way, I never learned anything other than a few phrases. And while being able to say the equivalent of "you're making me nuts leave me alone, go knock your head against the wall" is kind of fun, it's not overly useful. (The first phrase is literally stop banging my teapot iirc, which I always liked. Language phrases and how they're used/interpreted can be really interesting).
