Just back from London :)
The complete Holmes geek that I am, I took the opportunity to visit the
Sherlock Holmes Museum in Baker Street.
I toured the three floors of Victorian creaky flat with old pretty furniture filled rooms with a stupid grin on my face taking pictures like crazy and feeling a bit overwhelmed about everything. Will post pictures later.
The actual wicker chair that Paget used as reference when he drew this picture was on display (I touched it!).
My timing for the London trip was quite lucky, because I got to see the play "
The Secret Of Sherlock Holmes" witch is running in the Duches Theatre until next month i think (go see it!).
I loved it.
Obviously it wasn't as good as it would have with the
original cast in 1988, but it was still damn good. The set was really small and full of wonderful details, yet transformed beautifully, with lighting, to represent different places.
Peter Egan plays Holmes and Robert Daws is his Watson.
Sherlock was believably himself (if a bit flamboyant at times) and Watson, oh Watson.
He was so very Watson, the loyal friend, the victorian gentleman. The perfect counterpart to make whole Holmes's act.
And, in the middle, where after the scene at the falls there was the rose monologue, it so reminded me of Brett I did cry a little.
The whole play is quite dark and melancholy and really elaborates on the darker sides of Holmes's potential that are hinted to in the stories, if never fully explored. The actual plot is okay, not phenomenal but the actors and their chemistry makes it brilliant. The banter between Holmes and Watson is just delightful.
Apparently this post turned into a play review? Right.
Now I'm off to download the first episode of the new Holmes tv-series.
Let's see if it's any good.
