I just ordered three books that i've been meaning to buy for the past three years. I've also been meaning to make a few book recommendation posts, because, well, books are quintessential in my life. Anyway, I'll start with one of the books I just ordered and that I love but don't for whatever reason yet own. I'll be checking my post quite frequently in the weeks to come, is what i'm saying.
Its Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.
If you know these two writers and like their work, that's basically all the information you need to realize what a jewel this book is. It is a unicorn of books. It is magnificent, beautiful and if it was a person I would make love to it passionately and tenderly and never let it go. Ahem.
Did I mention it won the World Fantasy Award?
This book has amasingly down-to-earth fantasy characters and unconventionally interesting human characters and all of them in a lovely sort of England with homely bookshops, parks with duckponds and an seemingly innocent rolling countryside with more than a few suprises up it's sleeve. The story is rich with various popculture and biblical references and everything is mixed in so nicely that it's a pleasure to read, if in rare moments a bit confusing. It's one of those books that gives you something new each time you read it. And if you do read it, you will read it more than once. It will leave you wanting to follow the characters everyday life, to hear stories of their past and to live in their world just a bit longer.
This is of course exactly what fanfiction is for and GO fandom has some very true to original writers and incredible stories, some of which I have recced in
THIS post (they are of course SLASH fics).
Worth mentioning is also the fact that a
miniseries about the book is in development.
The other books I ordered are both by the writer duo
Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett, also known in fandom as the writers of
The Shoebox Project. The books are Havemercy and it's sequel Shadow Magic. I haven't read them, but i'm pretty sure the possibility of them being crap is pretty low. They're working on something new atm and I'm really looking forward to reading everything that comes out of this collaboration.
