RPF Hurt/Comfort Meme! in response to the awesome prompt left by
silnt_whisperer. (Prompt-J2. Jared trips over Harley on the steps and hurts his left hipbone and sprains his left ankle. Jensen totally dotes on him, mother henning him. Harley is very sorry and Doesn't leave Jared's side for a second.) I REALLY don't know much about the medical field but I have sprained my hip so hopefully I know enough.
Summary: Harley has a tendency to plop himself down in the worst places. It was only a matter of time before one of them tripped over the big mutt and Jensen should have known that with Jared it wouldn't just result in a few bruises.

Their reservations are at seven and it’s six thirty now. Jensen’s been ready for an hour but of course Jared-opposed to what he loves to tell everyone else-is taking forever to do his hair, pick out what he’s going to wear, and any of that other girly stuff Jared does.
So Jensen makes himself comfortable on the couch and aimlessly flips through the channels, settling on some cooking show that only makes him more hungry. He’s practically drooling as the chef cuts up the zucchini, which he doesn’t even like.
“Hey, Jen?” Jared calls from upstairs. “Have you seen my favorite shirt?”
“Have you looked in the dirty laundry?” He calls back quickly, adding the annoyed eye roll that he knows is lost on Jared.
“I know it’s clean.”
“Then I don’t know.” Jensen sighs and turns the volume down so Jared can hear him better. “Just pick a different shirt and let’s go. We’re already going to be late.”
“But it’s my favorite.”
“It’s just a shirt, Jared.” He yells with a bit more anger than he intended. So he adds, “You could go without a shirt. That’s always an option.”
There’s rustling up stairs and he can hear the closet shut followed shortly by their bedroom door before the heavy footsteps head toward the stairs. Jensen smiles and flips the TV off as he hops up from the couch and quickly smoothes the wrinkles out of his own shirt.
He hears Jared’s muffled curse, then the loud thud of what Jensen really hopes isn’t what he thinks it is but the three thuds that follow confirm his suspicion.
In seconds Jensen is at the stairs, kneeling down beside Jared. He pushes gently at Jared’s shoulders to keep him from moving and surprisingly Jared complies.
Jensen’s no doctor but he knows enough to realize now would be a really good time to call an ambulance. So as Jared blinks up at him, clearly trying to mask his pain, Jensen pulls out his cell and dials. His eyes drift up the stairs where a clearly guilty Harley is standing with his tail between his legs and eyes locked on Jared.
He quickly gives the operator their address and details on Jared’s injuries before stuffing the phone back into his pocket. Jared actually has the nerve to laugh at him when their hands lock together and Jensen’s are shaking harder than a leaf.
“Where’s Harley?” Jared asks as he tries to turn his head so he can see up the stairs.
Jensen’s hands move to cup Jared’s cheeks and stop his movement. He smiles and whispers softly, “He’s trying to stay out of the way.”
“Now he learns,” Jared laughs. This time Jensen can tell it’s genuine. “It wasn’t his fault. I left the light off in the hall and couldn’t see where I was going.”
“Hear that, Har,” Jensen says, looking up at the guilty dog and actually trying to pull off a comforting smile even if he’d never admit to it. “Your daddy isn’t upset with you.”
Harley wines and quickly makes his way down the stairs, coming to a stop right above where Jared is lying. He lowers his head and nudges gently at Jared’s arm. The scene would have melted anyone’s heart so Jensen really doesn’t feel odd for being so touched by it.
Jensen reaches out and pets Harley on the head, scratching behind his ears where he knows the mutt loves to be scratched. Harley closes his eyes and enjoys the treatment for a few seconds before he actually shakes his head and backs away from Jensen, laying down on the step so his head can rest near Jared’s.
Jensen laughs and gently pushes the bangs out of Jared’s face, his other hand held very tightly in Jared’s grasp. He may tease Jared for being so close to the dogs, but Jensen understands. It’s obvious the dogs love Jared just as much and they definitely believe their Jared’s children.
He sees the flashing lights as the ambulance pulls up and he reluctantly pulls away from Jared in order to open the door-carefully nudging a curious Sadie out of the way as she stands guard. After that it all goes by in a blur as the paramedics rush in and quickly check Jared over before carefully putting him on the stretcher and pushing him out the door.
Not that Jensen has a choice, since he’s not allowed to ride in the ambulance, but he stays just long enough to make sure the dogs are okay before he hops into his truck and follows Jared to the hospital. The last thing he wants is for Jared to be pissed at him when they get home and the dogs were out of water or something. It seems impossible for Jared to be mad at his pups but he has no probably giving Jensen hell.
~*~*~
As it turns out, Jared’s fall hadn’t been quite as serious as Jensen had been thinking as he raced to the hospital. Jared was lucky to have just sprained his hip and ankle which means he’s in considerable pain but not going to have to worry about casts or surgery.
Of course when Jensen had tried to remind him of that on the way home from the hospital last night, Jared had just snarled at him and glared out the window.
Jensen knows Jared is taking the blow to his pride much worse than the pain in his leg and he’s trying hard to be a caring and compassionate boyfriend. So despite his desire to walk out every time Jared snaps at him, Jensen has been sucking it up and staying close by in case the stubborn fool needs him.
Close by being the den, where Jensen has been hiding and pretending to read scripts for almost three hours-since Jared bitched and said Jensen was smothering him. However, his mind is still focused on Jared and he’s barely managed to get through the first two pages of the next episode they’ll be shooting. The episode that Eric pushed back until Jared recovers.
And that’s just one more thing Jared is upset about. Jensen knows how much Jared hates when things revolve around him or when the attention is on him and that’s exactly how he is feeling right now. Eric made the right decision though and Jensen thanked him for it because there is no doubt Jared would be up trying to act even as he hobbles on his crutches.
Jensen shakes his head with a fond smile as he stuffs his script back into the desk drawer and heads out into the living room. He stops in the door way when he hears Jared’s soft whisper that only makes his smile grow.
“You’re a good boy, Harley,” Jared says softly as he runs his hand over Harley’s head, which is resting atop Jared’s abdomen. “It wasn’t your fault, buddy.”
Harley definitely whines and pushes his noses into Jared’s side as his paw comes up to cover his eyes.
“I didn’t see you lying there, buddy. If it’s anyone’s fault, it’s mine.” Jared sits up as much as he can and kisses the side of Harley’s nose. The dog barks as Jared lies back down, moving his head so that he can lick at Jared’s face. “I love you too.”
Jensen clears his throat as he makes his way to the couch. “Are you two finished or would you like some more time alone?”
“Don’t listen to him, Harley,” Jared laughs. “He’s just jealous.”
“Yeah,” Jensen agrees, “because you’re being nicer to the dog than you’ve been to me all day.”
“I’m sorry.” Jared frowns as he tries to push himself up into a sitting position again. “But he’s got those sad puppy eyes. It’s too hard to be mad at him.”
“Just like his father.” Jensen leans over the back of the couch and curls his hand around Jared’s neck, bringing the injured man into a kiss and effectively cutting off his protest. He pulls away and smiles, leaving his hand on Jared’ shoulder. “You need anything? Got any ideas for dinner?”
“Honestly?” Jared looks up at him and Jensen knows he’s not going to like what Jared’s about to ask but he also knows he’ll be giving in. “I’d love to have a big juicy burger from the grill.”
“It’s like twenty degrees outside, Jay.” He tries to argue but is already mentally checking the fridge for ingredients.
“I’ll come out and sit with you!”
“No you won’t.”
“Harley won’t leave my side so this’ll give him a chance to go outside too.” Jared wraps his long fingers around Jensen’s wrist and smiles. “Please, Jen. I’ll wear a heavy coat and be a really good boy.”
Jensen shakes his head again as he pulls his hand out of Jared’s grasp so he can grab the crutches that are propped up against the armrest at Jared’s feet. He hands them to Jared who quickly sits up, carefully moving his legs over the side of the couch with obvious discomfort.
“Just don’t fall again,” Jensen warns as he turns around and heads into the kitchen, making note to grab Jared another dose of pain killers, “because I’m not going to help you up.”
End.
