GR1ND Studios is bringing variety to the comic shelf by way of the American underground. These groundbreaking graphic novels tell the true story of prohibition-era mobsters, inner-city drug lords, and suburban drug dealers. Penned by true-crime historians and urban fiction authors, the works are raw and authentic. GR1ND is also creating opportunities for convicts to make comics based on real-life experience. Let the writers and artists introduce you to this modern take on golden age crime comics.
GR1ND is a collaboration between Seth Ferranti (VICE, Gorilla Convict) and Anthony Mathenia (Stache) The goal is to take American comics into new frontiers by pairing urban-fiction writers like Wahida Clark (NYT, Ebony Bestseller) and true-crime historians like Christian Cipollini (A&E Biography, History Channel) with indie comic illustrators. Together they are creating compelling tales of criminal enterprise and gangster lore not seen since the Comic Code.

Wizard World is proud to present world-renown animator Tom Cook (Tarzan; Flash Gordon; He-Man and the Masters of the Universe; She-Ra Princess of Power). This panel will be a demonstration of the steps taken to bring an idea from script to screen. Cook will begin with a short story of how he became an animator back in the late 1970s and then describe the different departments in an animation studio and what they do to move the development of the cartoon forward. Tom will have a few scenes he has worked on over the years on video and then will open the floor for questions about either the process or any other question you may have. Starting quietly in fandom, this movement has gained so much popular support that steam has made the jump to mainstream, but what is it? Fashion, sub culture, role playing game? Everyone knows this this aesthetic has a design sensibility that borrows from our steam-engine past to imagine a Victorian future that never was. From Victorian England to American Wild West, to the deepest of darkest Africa, fashion from all over the world is fair game. But how to you take part and look like a expert? This panel will talk about how to build props and devices for the steam punk costume of your dreams and about the how different people Approach this thing called Steampunk. This Panel will focus on questions starting at basic level that allows for beginners, but informative enough that experts can also gain insight from this panel, it is open to all who wish to learn about steam punk, in a half lecture, half Q and A format.

Best known for his portrayal of the wibbly-wobbly Doctor in the BBC's Doctor Who, Matt Smith has not only left his indelible mark on the 50-year-old legacy, but also taught us that bow ties and fish sticks with custard are cool. Smith began carrying the mantel of Time Lord back in 2009 as the youngest Doctor in the show's history, and just retired his sonic screwdriver during the sentimental and heartfelt Christmas Special episode this past December. Everyone knows the iconic image of Wonder Woman-but who is she really? Debuting in 1941’s All Star Comics #8, Wonder Woman has from the very beginning been a symbol of female empowerment. But exactly what that means and how it has been represented over the decades and across media have been topics of intense speculation and debate. What were WW creators William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter trying to convey through the Amazon princess-and what has been the character’s subtext as she went through numerous incarnations in comics, the Lynda Carter-starring 1970s TV series, her animated version in DC cartoons, and her most recent portrayal in the just-opened Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice? Join comics historians Danny Fingeroth (Superman on the Couch: What Superheroes Really Tell Us About Ourselves and Our Society) and Dr. Peter Coogan (Superhero: The Secret Origin of a Genre) as they present a slideshow history of Wonder Woman and discuss her cultural significance over more than seven decades.

A game jam is an organized get-together with the intention of creating a full game - from conception to completion - in a pre-determined, short period of time. In this case, two-action-packed-hours! Popular Indie games such as World of Goo and Surgeon Simulator 2013 were both created during this same type of rapid prototyping. So bring your family and friends to this one-of-a-kind adventure where creatives from the St. Louis Game Developer Co-Op including Jenny Gibbons and Malcolm Pierce from Thesis Games will team up with audiences to decide on the theme for the jam, brainstorm the game idea, and then create a brand new video game live on stage!
