What makes me sick

Warning: what follows is a rant with no redeeming quialities. I thought you should know that before you waste your time.

So imagine this scenario: For want of a...maybe $3,000 medical test which a man can't afford and doesn't have insurance to cover, a serious medical condition goes undiagnosed. This leads to his getting very sick, to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars of compssionate care he now can't be denied, but that he never would have needed if the system had paid for the $3,000 test. Hundreds of thousands of dollars that can't save him, and in the long run, won't even spare him that much pain.

I know thousands of people are in this boat. I understand that. But what I don't understand is why?

What part of this equation am I missing that makes it make any sort of sense? Where is the logic? Why aren't more people pissed off enough to do something about it?

I don't normally rant on here without at least trying to make some sense of what set me off. I'm at a loss here, though. Even if people's lives weren't at risk, just dollars and cents don't add up.

It leaves me lost and furious and all I have is gratitude I live in a counrty where this doesn't happen. Doesn't mean we don't have our fair share of bullshit politics, but at least we got the math right on this one.

something to think about, grounds in my coffee
