With a release date and everything. On August 11, 2010, Angel Requiem will be released to the world. (Which is kind of a huge deal to me, because this story has racked up the most rejection slips of any of my stories, and I'm kinda still fraked out it actually got me my first contract at the first GLBT publisher I ever found and have wanted to be a part of ever since.) What I thought was my most hopeless story got me in the door at my most coveted publisher. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause. I do believe :D
And if you're curious about the inspiration for the story, it was this:
THE rustle of feathers drowns out all other sound.
The weight of the wings...
The weight of the world....
THAT weight is always there.
The whispering; always there.
I just can’t hear the words.
A CACOPHONY of sound,
that terrifying lament
-and no one hears but me.
A DESIRE so strong,
so overwhelming it is impossible to resist,
yet impossible to heed.
THERE is something deeper than desire.
If I can reach it,
perhaps
I will begin to understand.
EVERY journey begins with a step into the unknown.
I can’t remember ever living anywhere but the unknown.
I think I might have been having a moment when I wrote that. But hey. Everything happens for a reason, right? And whatever the moment was, it produced something I'm mighty proud of.
