Back in highschool I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and it was something I found very upsetting. However, I had a choice. I could label myself bipolar, and therefore, "become" my diagnosis, or I could suck it up and deal (if anyone remembers what sort of a moron I was, it was obvious I didn't choose to deal until later). And what good did whinning do me? Absolutely nothing.
Nowadays, everyone and their grandfather has some sort of "mental disorder" whether it be bipolar, Asperger's, ADD, borderline personality, OCD, etc, etc, etc. I partially blame this on doctor's handing out diagnosises to hook more patients (I mean, it IS their way of making money) but also, it has in a way become a sort of trend to diagnose oneself by reading symptoms.
If you haven't seen an actual doctor about this, I would highly recommend going to have it checked out. What's the worst that could happen? Now, if you don't, wonderful. If you do have it, what the fuck does it matter? Many succesful people suffer from many of these "mental disorders" but with some help from medicine and will-power, the obstacles can easily be overcome.
I really hope this helps in some way, hon. Drop me a line if you want to talk about anything. Hope everything's good for you. =)
i'm going to get it checked out of course, and seek treatment as well.
thanks for the advice about not becoming the disorder. of course i've already dealt with this sort of a situation with my tourette's and ADHD. so i don't think i'm making too big a deal out of this. i just felt like telling people i guess.
:) thanks for the advice, and i know you know what your talking about. i'm glad you responded to this.
I'm glad you are seeking a proffessional opinion-- and then, I'm not sure what good it would do. Like alveryx said, a label can only go as far as describing a set of conditions. Reiterating keywanthemegami, it's up to your will to challenge yourself to become a more functional individual, given your neuro-goods, if that's what you desire, and then, if necessary, up to chemistry to help facilitate the process. Far as I know, Asperger's is not something I would go through without medication, depending on how mild it is. (A close friend of mine has Aspergers)
If you need sharp kick of pragmatism, hit me up. I really know about that shaznat. I used to take meds, did the psychs, and really believe in the malleability of certain individuals.
*I always thought Tourette's might have not quite covered it with you...
