A/N: Written today for school, and is thus unedited. I may still tweak a few things, like the "placeholder" words ("just," "all," etc.). xP
Directions/Prompt: Write a love poem about somebody in your life. It doesn't have to be about a romantic relationship. It must be a Shakespearean sonnet (iambic pentameter, 3 quatrains and a couplet), and it should compare somebody (the subject) to something else. It must also begin with the words "Shall I compare thee..." [We were just studying Shakespeare's Sonnet 18, doncha know?]
Claimer: Everything here is so totally © me! Haha! Originality rocks! Woo!
Edited version:
Shall I compare Thee to a pen pal far
Away, and inaccessible from here?
At times, Your distance fills me with despair
At times, Your closeness permeates my fear
I call, but You ignore the ringing phone
I write until the postage breaks my bank
You take from me, and I am left alone
You give, and I find nobody to thank
You tell me You will always remain near
You love me with the love I need to live
You promise You will wipe my every tear
You’ve given me more than there is to give
Oh God, I’ll keep the faith, and I will see
How good You have already been to me.
Shall I compare thee to a pen pal far
Away, and inaccessible from here?
At times, Your distance fills me with despair
At times, Your closeness just transcends my fear
I call and beg You to pick up the phone
I write until the postage breaks my bank
You take and I am left here all alone
You give and I hear no one near to thank
You tell me You will always remain near
You’ve loved me with the love I need to live
You promise You will wipe my every tear
You’ve given me more than there is to give
Oh God, I’ll keep the faith and I will see
The graciousness You have gifted to me.
