If anyone's wondering why my icon's changed from this
to this
it's because it's mirrorverse week at
ontd_startrek , and I figured I'd make a moustache'd icon and join the fun, despite never having seen the Mirror Mirror episode (which I'm going to do after this, actually). So... that's that.
Actually, speaking of it being mirrorverse week, I'm starting to think it might actually be: you see, on Friday, I dressed for warm weather, but it turned out to be a very cold day. So there I was in shorts and a low-cut tshirt freezing my arse off, while my friends were in pants, at the least. See, usually I'm the modest one, and I ended up being the one wearing the least clothing. In the end my friend had to help warm me up with her jacket - this is the friend who's usually the one freezing to death in short shorts and a tank top while I try to make her wear my scarf.
tl;dr - There may be more to this mirrorverse thing than we thought.
So regarding my fanvid-related
cry for help last week, this is what I've come to:
multi-Shakespeare vid set to "Gay Bar". Julius Caesar 1979, Twelfth Night 1996, Merchant of Venice (I don't know the year but you know the one I'm talking about), Hamlet w/ David Tennant, some version of Richard II after I've seen it, and maybe As You Like It. (Are there any better/gayer versions out there? I've only seen the 2006 one, in which Rosalind in disguise looked about the same as I did playing Antony - a girl, in a ponytail, with sort-of-manly clothes on.) Any other film suggestions?
finally banished the horrible Cassius/Casca demon and have decided that, if I ever make a vid to "She's So High", it will be Viola/Olivia. So. Problem solved there. (But speaking of Cassius/Casca, I'd love to make a vid of them from the 79 version, I'm just not sure what song to use.)
of course, I WOULD come up with a completely new idea after posting that list, which is why I've started an Antonio/Sebastian vid set to "Romanticide". Seriously, this IS Antonio's song. Just listen:

Not sure what's up with the flowers.
Speaking of songs that fit my OTPs, this is my Hamlet/Horatio song forever. Found it yesterday; it's so perfect.

Just. Guh. I might cry. ):
The lyrics fit them so well. I can actually see it working in two ways: either a general lovey song, OR the much-more-specific interpretation that it is Horatio's POV after Hamlet dies, charged with the task of telling Hamlet's story and thinking: I want the world to know how much I loved him. Which is why all the "we'll be lovers forever" stuff isn't sad/ironic: it's actually talking about how they'll be remembered forever, even now that Hamlet's dead and Horatio will die eventually, because Horatio will tell the story and others will tell it after him. They and their love will live on in that way even after they both have died. It's a very Shakespearean idea - words outliving people, and people living on in those words.
Well, that got tangential.
I'm reading Coriolanus right now, and because of my prior experience with Shakespeare's Roman plays (coughJULIUSCAESAR), I am inclined to see everyone as gay. They are not doing much to dissuade me from this, either. (Note: Coriolanus and Aufidius haven't even met yet at the point where I am. I think the former has just come to the latter's house. That should tell you something about me and my slash goggles.) Also, looked it up on Wikipedia, and it turns out that yes, this is The Brutus of Tarquin-driving fame. It's kind of neat to see how Shakespeare's characterization of him lines up (or doesn't) with all the stuff about him in JC.
Can anyone recommend a good film version of it? I'm not sure whether or not to be excited for the Ralph Fiennes version. NO TOGAS.
