In chronological order.

Taming of the Shrew (the Zeffifefferschneffer one) *sighs* Oh, Taming. Taming, Taming, Taming. You can't just -say- on the back of the case that in the end Kate gets the better of/power over her husband unless you actually do something to indicate that in the film. You gave us a few glimpses of schemy!Kate at the beginning ( Read more... )

shakespeare, having a gay old time, queer theory, historical fiction, slash goggles, shakespeare on film, taming of the shrew, twelfth night, viola/olivia, macbeth, movies

(Also Burton's Hamlet!) Yes, do! I've never read it in class - or indeed, read the whole thing - so I feel like a lot of the nuance of the performances went over my head. I'd love to hear your take on it :D

(Ooh, haven't seen that one yet. How many Hamlets have you seen?)

Haha, okay, okay! XD I actually did start reading it a few weeks ago, because most of my friends at school are in a different small school than me, and they were all reading it in their English class. And I wanted to keep up with them. I never finished it, got sidetracked by As You Like It (am I the only one who finds everyone in that play obnoxious?), but I suppose I ought to pick up where I left off.

Nah, but I got bittorrent, which is even better. XD For realsies? Have you seen Derek Jacobi's? That one knocks all other Hamlets out of the ballpark in terms of shippiness IMO.

Dayum. List? :D

AYLI is... okay. I resent it because Twelfth Night is Shakespeare's other genderbender, and I vastly prefer it to AYLI, but people seem to like Rosalind over Viola. *coughs* Anyway.

(Someone does get mauled by a lion, but that's offstage.)

Wait, you've seen Jacobi's and you don't think it's the slashiest? Are we talking about the same movie? XD

Hmm. Well, I haven't _seen_ the Kline version, so I suppose I can't talk.

Was that the group that did the female Horatio?

Ahahaha. XD Have you ever heard of I Claudius? Patrick Stewart plays a Roman general. With HAIR. It's scary but madly amusing.

I'm going to see a production of Hamlet this summer; both Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are female. :D *very much looking forward to the 'strumpet' banter*
