Today I walked home after softball pictures and everything was so beautiful. The sun was shining right through the leafless trees all the way down Elmwood and everyone was out walking their dogs and going for runs. I was wearing my fringe jacket and listening to the Byrds, Bob Dylan and the Soul Stirrers and everything was perfect. But for some reason I kept speeding up, wanting to get home before 5 so could watch the X-Files. The X-Files? Really? Here I was walking down the perfect street at the perfect time of day and all I could think about was some cult TV series that's been off network television for years. I realized right then that that's what's wrong with us. It's what's wrong with everybody. Nobody can just appreciate a walk anymore. Everything has to be sped up, supersized, and packaged ready to use. Does anyone care about what's real anymore? Does anyone even know what's real anymore?
