waiting for the break of day

greetings from chicago.

i'm just gonna use eastern time zone for all the times in this post (unless otherwise noted).

so i'm in chicago for work unti thursday.  i landed at midway airport this morning around 9am.   then i took the train (CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY ROCKS! 25 or 6 to 4!) into the city and then went to the office building i was supposed to go to.  on the train, i was pissed off because it was so cloudy and rainy here in chicago.   and the clouds were so low, i couldn't see the tops of any buildings or the skyline.  that was one of the few things i was really excited for.   eventually this evening, it cleared up a bit and i was able to spot the john hancock building. still haven't spotted the sears tower yet.  maybe tomorrow will be clearer.

after work today, i was walking to the hotel, and i spotted three potential dinner spots--  pizzeria uno (the ORIGINAL one), pizzeria due (caddy-corner from uno), and california pizza kitchen.   i decided to wait to try california pizza kitchen until i'm actually in california (who knows when that'll ever happen), and i didn't wanna eat at "pizzeria due" (it has to be an uno knockoff!), so i went with pizzeria uno.  turns out that they also own pizzeria due, which they opened in the 1950s because they were getting too big for their initial restaurant.  i had the deep dish, and it was glorious.

my hotel room is pretty damn sweet.  i'm staying at the james hotel.  40 inch flatscreen tv. full mini-fridge and snacks (unfortunately the snacks are like $5 each, so i probably won't have any),  retro orange leather lounge chair & matching ottoman, a lamp that looks like the pixar logo, and a king size bed with 8 fluffy pillows.  perhaps the most amazing thing about the room though is the alarm clock.  holy shit, this thing is amazing.  at first glance, it looks like a normal small alarm clock.  but then i noticed a red light on top. i thought perhaps it blinks when the alarm goes off? i dunno... but then i laid down in the bed, and i look up at the ceiling, and holy shit-- there's the time projected on the damn ceiling.  now that's hot.

i guess thats all.  oh, wait, central time zone is weird.  the all-star game started at 7pm here. which made me realize again that in california, the all star game started at 5pm.  FIVE PM.  what a different world....   in califlornia, sunday football starts at 10am.  weird....  oh, and letterman is on at 10:30 here, and conan's on at 11:30.   weeeird...

ok, thats all.
