R.I.P. Arrested Development (2003 - 2005)

Nov 11, 2005 21:01

this really might be the saddest news since october 23rd, 2003, when i read that elliott smith passed away. which, amazingly, is exactly one week before Arrested Development first premiered on november 1, 2003.

that was a great day.

i remember seeing some promos for this show in the weeks prior, and I remember ben and I saying "we have to watch this show". and we've been hooked ever since. over the past two seasons, my obsession has grown to what some may call an "unhealhty level". if you are one of these people, well fuck you. so what if i tivo each episode so i can watch it again immediately after it airs. and so what if i download the bit torrent of each episode the next day, so i can watch it 3 or 4 more times before the next new episode airs. and so what if i watch it once while reading the transcript, giving me the chance to catch any subtle joke that i happened to miss during the first 3 viewings. it's that good, folks.

it pains me to no end that fox would cancel this show. it's won countless emmy's (ok, i know i can count to 12), and it is the smartest, funniest show on fox. period. some may argue that family guy is funnier, true. but no one can argue that any other show is smarter in its humor and writing. i guess the thing i don't get is why they never marketed this show as much as they do for "stacked" or "bernie mac". i mean, really.... why the hell is malcolm in the middle still on the air, and arrested development is the one getting cut? it just doesn't make any sense.

i can only hope that it comes back from death... on some other network. but if not, i'll end up having 53 episodes on dvd to watch over & over for years to come.

only 8 episodes left...

...taste the sad....
