so i got my first ticket ever this week. two, actually. parking violations. for "improper parking within 25 ft of crosswalk". each ticket is 54 fucking bucks. i got one on monday, and then another on wednesday, because i hadn't used my car since the weekend. but i think i may try to fight it. first of all, 25 ft is rediculous here in hoboken. secondly, observe:
since the quality isn't perfect, here's the lowdown: firstly, the red rectangle was where my car was. you can see that, technically, it is within 25 ft of the crosswalk (but there are always cars within 25 ft of a crosswork. take this google earth image for example). secondly, the parking sign which was right behind my car said residential parking only, with the arrows pointing both ways. that is, there was NOT a sign that said "no parking from here to corner" or "...here to crosswalk". thirdly, the curb on my side of the crosswalk was NOT painted yellow. i know that technically just because its not yellow doesn't mean its legal to park there, but the other side of the crosswalk & beyond was painted yellow. my area was not.
do you think i have a case? court appearance would be scheduled for november 16th.
i might need to get the sympathy of the court. i need to get matlock with the white suit.
