Gay weddings and bad boys

American readers should not get too excited about the gay marriage legislation. While it is indeed liberal etc, (being straight, a batchelor and white, it hardly impacts on me at all - but it did force a few gay couples I know to reassess their relationships... ooops, commitment means something else when it ends with a tango down the aisle), it should also be seen against a backdrop of the highest Hiv/AIDs per capita in the world (our solution being vegetable matter in the diet)and an increasingly corrupt bunch of policians and senior civil servants. Thank goodness we're getting the soccer world cup in 2010 which will keep things vaguely honest for a few years yet and then all bets are off.

Curiously, I was at a gay wedding three months ago - official videogrpher - performed by the British High Commissioner. The merit in those numptials was that it kept the greedy hands of family off a collection of art and glazedware accrued by the couple over a lifetime of collecting.

OK... because I'm working on a bunch of spreadsheets calculating the Return on Investment for the liquor trade, I'd best get my head down.

Glad you enjoyed the book - I've just finished The Secret of Scent by Luca Turin which is more of a chemistry lesson than an explanation of why things smell like they do - molecular structures etc. Now I know why Lagavulin smells like it does.
