G W Bush is gone. Obama is in. I won't say anything that hasn't been said better by others more qualified than me already. It's good to see the people of America be rightfully proud of their achievement. By putting a man with Obama's heritage in, they,as a nation, have risen to the challenge laid down to them by their forefathers. By helping make the American dream come true they've earned the right to feel proud of themselves, each other and of their nation.
Here, after 90 years of Dail Eireann all Biffo did was try to make us feel dirty and lay on the emotional blackmail about the Lisbon Treaty thick again.
It makes me sad. I can't think of an Irish achievement that inspires such pride in it's people as I've seen ignited in the faces across America. We don't even win the Eurovision Song contest any more. Our sporting achievements are hurting too. For every great golfer and boxer we claim as ours in the past decade, we've won an equestrian medal in the Olympics which was stripped after the horse failed the drug test. Last year one of our athlete's in the Special Olympics had his medal stripped because he lied about having a learning disability. That was a South Park storyline at one point for heavens sake!
I'm not going to get a medal myself for raising Ireland's profile on a world stage any time soon. I know that. I just never liked the report card from school that read "I know he's a capable student. He just needs to try harder."
Please God give us something good that will inspire this nation to greatness once again.
I'm a curmudgeon. Don't make me get up and have to do it myself.......
