DRUMROLL!

For the TENTH year in a row, Donna's 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW SURVEY!

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?

This question gets harder & harder to answer every year. But let's see... I went to a real soccer game, as opposed to Neil's Rain, Hail or Shine soccer game in Comox. (Are they even called 'games?' Should I be saying 'match?' Whatever. David Beckham was there.) I got a kitten! I saw SIR PAUL. I was a Girl In Motion!

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for this year?

Well, last year my resolution was to blog more, and we all know how that turned out! (It didn't.) But maybe I'll make the same resolution and see if third time's the charm. I also had a Goodreads goal of reading 75 books, but I only made it to 68 - but I'm halfway finished two right now, so maybe I can cheat and say I read 70-ish. No one will know! Just me & my blog!

So anyway, my resolutions for this year are:
1) Blog more.
2) Go through/get rid of all the junk in my room.
3) Read 65 books, including a bunch of classics that have been waiting on the shelf for too long. Might this be the year I finally get through Anna Karenina? We'll see in next year's Year In Review post! How exciting for you.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

I'm trying to think & coming up with nothing... I'll feel really bad if I'm leaving out a baby! But everyone had babies in 2011, so I think I'm good. These things go in cycles!

4. Did anyone close to you die?

JR Ewing.

5. What countries did you visit?

Hm. The US, Ireland, Soviet Russia, 1890's London, Poland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Egypt, North Korea...

In reality? None. But I did enjoy my literary travels!

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?

A new, cheaper apartment so my mom doesn't have to work so hard and a non-rainy June!

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

May 20th AKA Donna Day! The day I participated in the Rick Hansen relay. It was probably the best, most memorable day of my life.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I don't know... do I ever really achieve things??? I watched the entire series of Breaking Bad in less than a month & cut my Slurpee intake dramatically, but that wasn't by choice and resulted in a Starbucks intake spike. I learned how to Skype! I didn't get a sunburn at Gay Pride. (That's actually a pretty good achievement!) I did the Muscular Dystrophy Walk and my mom & I walked every inch of the Sea Wall. I got thanked in a BC Hockey Hall of Fame speech, which naturally had everything to do with me and not the person actually giving the speech. I got another tattoo. Okay, so I did accomplish a couple things.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not reaching an agreement with the NHLPA & losing at least half a season of hockey.... Oh, wait. Once again, that wasn't me!

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I almost DIED choking on my wisdom teeth verrrrrrrrry early in 2012. I lost my voice a ridiculous number of times. I was sick for nearly a month in September. So, the usual.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Tickets to Paul McCartney. Hands down.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Let's see... This year's awards go to:
For Laughing In The Face Of Danger - Keir Hamilton
For Forging Their Own Paths: Jaclyn & Brianna Grant
For Throwing Down, Finally: Barack Obama
For Dating A Kennedy: Taylor Swift
For Perseverance: Neil Gibbings

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Mitt Romney and a myriad of Republicans. The NRA. Stephen Harper and a myriad of Conservatives.

14. Where did most of your money go?

That's a GOOD question! Where did it go?! Probably into my cat's belly, that's where.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Rick Hansen Day. Paul McCartney.

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?

Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but here's my number. Call me, maybe? - Carly Rae Jepsen

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier?
ii. thinner or fatter? The same!
iii. richer or poorer? No idea!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Visiting with friends & family, but that's not entirely up to me! I'm fairly stationary these days, unfortunately! And blogging.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Procrastinating.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

Spent it with my mom & baby brother, like always!

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?

Jax Teller. Nuff said.

23. How many one-night stands?

Six.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Doctor Who, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Heartland, Mad Men, Broadwalk Empire, Community, Parks & Rec, Sons of Anarchy

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

I try not to hate. It's pointless.

26. What was the best book you read?

Look! I'm just going to name one book for the first time ever!!

The Fault In Our Stars - John Green

(Ok. And an honourable mention to The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon.)

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

This will sound retarded since they're not exactly new, but the Grateful Dead.

28. What did you want and get?

A kitten!

29. What did you want and not get?

Hmm. A co-op apartment maybe?

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Avengers, Beasts of the Southern Wild

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I turned 32 and went out for lunch/dinner with mom, Neil & an ex-girlfriend, Brenna and Tysen at Monks and came home for cupcakes.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Less rain. More sun. A hockey season.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?

If it has buttons, I'm not wearing it.

34. What kept you sane?

Twitter, Celexa, Netflix. (Same as last year!)

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I'm not sure if I was captured by anyone in particular this year. I like Miley Cyrus's new haircut? Oh, no, wait! AMY POEHLER.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Pipelines, pipelines, pipelines. US election.

37. Who did you miss?

EVERYONE!! You name 'em, I missed 'em.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

I can't think of a particular person I met, but I got to know a lot of awesome new people on Twitter, too many to list!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.

I am a cat person and I had no idea.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Play the game, you know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on, only you can do what must be done
You know in some way you're a lot like me
You're just a prisoner and you're tryin' to break free

And so goes another year! Oh, and if you missed my deep & reflective Ode To 2012: A POEM, you're seriously missing some bitchin' rhyming couplets.

Saw Django Unchained today with my ma. We were trying to see Les Miserables, but it was sold out! But it worked out well in the end - Django was excellent and had the funniest Klan scene ever. It's not easy to make the Klan funny, but just leave it to QT. He gotchew. It was funny, disturbing, über-violent, hilarious, and hell, a little touching! (And I got to see Tamblyn's cutie face. Bonus.)
