Tonight was my birthday party. Neil just left, but everyone else left at around 1:15am, I think. It was fun and I haven't laughed that hard in awhile.
I'd decided to have over my boys, Neil, Will and Scott (who you all should know by now, I grew up with!) and their girlfriends - except Neil who has no girlfriend, much to my eternal dismay. Growing up, we were obsessed with Ninja Turtles. We always played Ninja Turtles, watched Ninja Turtles, breathed Ninja Turtles... And the love affair continues. We watched the new CGI Ninja Turtle movie (and I got my very own copy from them) and had pizza. Pizza is the official Ninja Turtle food, you know.
We then played 90's Trivial Pursuit, which they also gave me, and ohmygod, that's always good for a laugh.
Will: Okay, so the teams are you guys *points*, me and Laurie, and Donna and Scotty.
Scott: No! Me and Donna, and you and Laurie!
*pause*
Andrea: Uh, that's the same thing.
Scott: Oooh. Right.
So yes, Scott and I were on a team because we decided to separate the Power Houses of Donna, Neil and Will. Scott refered to our team, naming himself as the brains and me as the muscle, which might explain our loss. (Another mis-speak, not a joke, by the way!) Neil got Amanda, who was still a toddler in much of the 90's, and Andrea, who wasn't allowed to watch TV and thusly has no knowledge of pop culture from a decade ago. I got Dead Weight Scotty (who to be fair did get questions right, but it was out-weighed by him giving "hints" to the other teams when it was their turn) and Will and Mom seemed to be evenly matched in their 90's knowledge, although Will had to pick up the slack for any questions from '98-'99 aka Laurie's Lost Years.
I think the night can be summed up by Neil fit throwing about the degree to which one must follow the rules of the game and Scotty pronouncing the word 'queue' as 'kwee' and sending everyone into 5 minutes of hysterics, and Scott refused to continue play until everyone stopped laughing *at* him and was willing to wait for Team Laurie to quit guffawing, and noted they would not be winning the Most Sportsmanlike Award.
In the end, Team Amanda won, though we all had all our pies (Team Donna was first!) and were all circling the centre. Scott blames me for losing.
And even though this probably isn't funny to anyone else, it killed me, so I'm writing it here to remember:
Neil, in regards to Andrea's dice rolling: Yar, you're totally screwing us.
Had to be there.
