Cobra coverage will be $900 a month for family coverage. (that would be for both of us) For my single coverage at Harvard, it runs $1169 for six months. Granted he wont be covered on my harvard insurance, but he never has had to use it anyway, he rarely gets sick. I need it mostly for the prescription allergy meds coverage.

We've been pretty lucky when it comes to ER visits. A couple of years ago when I ended up in the ER at 4AM for a severe intestinal infection, they ran every test imaginable, finally gave me a shot, some oral antibiotics (wanted to admit me, I wouldn't let them) and let me go home. I had no insurance and they still treated me and billed me on a monthly basis. The cost was well over $1500. for 6 hours in the ER, but at $100. a month it wasn't painful
