Yesterday was my parents 43rd wedding anniversary, in this day and age, that is quite an accomplishment. (yes they are still married, yes, both are still living.) It was also the 43rd anniversary of hurricane Donna hitting the east coast of the northeastern US. It was a large enough and damaging enough hurricane that the name Donna has been retired and will never be used again. No, I was not conceived on my parents wedding night.

My mother tells the story of how when they were married, my father managed a huge chicken farm. And how on their wedding night, he spent the entire night watching the weather on TV because he was scared that the hurricane would hit and destroy the chicken coops. Not that he could have done anything about it from Niagara Falls or even if he was home. Thus, their marriage was not consumated on the wedding night.

The hurricane did hit, the chickens were fine.

family, memories
