HP6

I'm a fast reader, at least I always thought I was, being able to finish a standard size novel in a day or so.
I just finished HP6. So many other people I know finished it within a day of getting it. I got the book of Saturday just like so many others, but for some reason this book was just unable to hold my interest the way the previous five did and it seemed like it just took forever to get through it.

Part of it I think is this book does so much set-up and so much reflection into the past, which I know is important to the story, but I was more than half way through the book before I felt the story even started.

I'm disappointed that Snape turned out to be a bad guy, I really thought it was all for show.

Did you ever just want to slap a fictional character and say "hey smarten up..." I wanted to slap both Ron and Hermione through most of the book. It got tiring.

I doubt this is the last we hear/see of Dumbledore. He has a portrait already. Considering Harry was doing a lot of the magic on his own already, there is no reason he can't take instruction from the portrait.

I expect to see Harry teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts in the end, afterall, who better to teach it than someone who has had to defend against them numerous times.

I also see Sirius coming back, afterall they never had a body, who's to say he's really dead and not in some otherworld space or something.

I'm also glad to see Lupin as a continuing character, I liked him.

In all I'm a bit disappointed. It just didn't seem as engaging as the previous books.

And now onto something with a bit of substance, the next book on my queue is Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jarad Diamond.
