You learn something new everyday...

I discovered something today that I didn't expect. My parents are very strongly Democrat. I thought they really didn't care much. I don't recall them ever going and actually voting when I was a kid growing up, maybe they did, but I don't remember.

anyway...

We were talking on the phone tonight and she asked how my job hunt was going (for once she didn't berate me for not having a job or taking *any* job I could find, like at Stop & Shop for example, but thats another story/rant.) I told her that I was sending out resumes and had sent four out last week, but that museums are notoriously slow in responding and because many were really watching finances now thanks to George W. Bush's war taking all the funding, many just were not hiring. She immediately shot back "Don't vote for him!" I was dumbstruck for a moment since my parents tend to be very conservative and I just avoided talking politics to keep the peace so to speak. So after I regained my voice I told her that I didn't plan to. We talked a little about politics and how Massachusetts was very strongly a democratic state and that it was the other swing states we had to be worried about. Anyway, it was a rather reasonable discussion and for it to not degrade into an argument was suprizing. Usually my mother gets started and.. well anyway, it usually ends up with one of us being pissed at the other for some reason. Tonight was very different. We actually agreed on an important issue. Wow.

family, politics
